The Lost Sheep

Luke 15: 3-7

Then Jesus told them this story: 4 If any of you has a hundred sheep, and one of them gets lost, what will you do? Won’t you leave the ninety-nine in the field and go look for the lost sheep until you find it? And when you find it, you will be so glad that you will put it on your shoulder and carry it home. Then you will call in your friends and neighbors and say, “Let’s celebrate! I’ve found my lost sheep.”Jesus said, “In the same way there is more happiness in heaven because of one sinner who turns to God than over ninety-nine good people who don’t need to.”

Pom pom instructions

You will need

  • A piece of cardboard, an empty cereal box is fine
  • A circle template (eg a glass)
  • A small circle (eg a coin)
  • Pen
  • Scissors – remember to ask an adult first
  • Wool

Making the cardboard discs

  1. Cut two circles – using your glass as a template
  2. Draw a smaller circle in the centre, using a 2p piece.
  3. Cut a V shaped slit from the outer circle to the smaller one and cut out the inner circle too.
  4. The V shaped slot makes it easier to wrap the wool around the pom pom maker. Repeat for second disc.
  5. Put both cardboard discs together. This is your pom pom maker template.

Making your pom pom

  1. Start wrapping your wool around the pom pom maker. The more wool you wrap around the maker the fluffier your pom pom will be.
  2. Once you are happy with the amount of wool you have used to make your pom pom start cutting the wool, by pushing your scissors between the two discs. Yes it can be fiddly but take your time and carefully cut the wool. Take care the short pieces of wool do not “fall out” of the middle hole.
  3. Carefully wrap a long piece of wool between the two cardboard discs and around your pom pom.
  4. Tie it as tight as possibly can, wrap the wool round your pom again and tie it tightly
  5. Carefully pull your finished pom pom out and decorate it.
